Spend Time With Yourself
Welcome to Monday Momentum - Your weekly dose of inspiration designed to kickstart your week with energy, motivation, and focus
A Quote I Like:
"No one can see their reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see."
Back in 2020, when we all realized this wasn’t just a two-week break from work, I started feeling super anxious about being stuck at home alone for so long. The chaotic mornings, rushed 15-minute lunch breaks, and Friday nights out were gone. Life’s usual hustle had always been a great distraction from the one thing we usually avoid—ourselves. We're so busy chipping away at our to-do lists that we rarely stop to think about how we’re feeling, acting, or showing up in the world. But when all you have is time, you’re forced to spend a lot of it with yourself, which can be very uncomfortable for most people. Me included.
Over the next 3 years, I spent hundreds of hours talking to my friend Nick, who was going through the same thing. We’d chat about our anxiety, dig into where it was coming from, and set little challenges for each other each week to work through it. Slowly but surely, we started peeling back the layers and getting tiny glimpses of the men we wanted to become. For the first time in my life, I could look back at an old version of myself and barely recognize who I used to be. And it was only when we were forced to slow down, take notes, and look at our reflections in still water that we truly saw ourselves.
One Thing to Try This Week:
As the holidays roll in and (hopefully) things slow down a bit, take some time to hang out with yourself. Look back on your year. What went great? What could’ve been better? Was there a moment where you could’ve handled things differently?
When you make reflection a habit, you set yourself up to handle life better next time around—for you and the people in your corner. Who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll look back and barely recognize the person you used to be. And honestly? That’s the goal.
Resource of the Week:
Instant Relaxation: 5-Minute Guided Breathwork for Nervous System Regulation: Lately, I’ve been doing this quick 5-minute breathwork routine whenever I’m feeling stressed or need to wind down before bed. It’s a great way to remind myself to slow down and just breathe (literally). It helps me tackle whatever the day throws at me with a bit more calm and mindfulness. Give it a shot and see how you feel after!
Happy Holidays <3
